Depression Treatment Plan Options

You know that cognitive psychological forms of depression treatment often don't deliver the goods - especially in severe, deeper forms of depression.

By 'cognitive' treatment I mean any approach by a clinical psychologist that delves into thought processes alone, or into revealing irrational beliefs, counter-productive thinking, etc.

It's a trend in pop psychology to believe that depression is all a matter of attitude, habits of thinking, perceptions and your subconscious beliefs... but these things, being invisible to the therapist, are almost untestable and we know from our own intuitive experience that the whole BODY is very much involved in 'clinical depression' or "having the blues."

The conventional wisdom in modern, western society for treating sadness runs along these lines, of going to a professional therapist for 'help':

Psychotherapy, a popular type of depression treatment actually includes short-term therapy sessions, usually from ten to twenty weeks promising to be able to make positive results for the depression, for the depressed 'patient'. This type of depression treatment actually helps the individual by getting them to actually open up about their own feelings, the root causes of their problems, and the root of their depression.

Healthy verbal exchanges between the cognitive behavior therapist and the depressive patient is great depression treatment that’ll positively affect the client by helping him or her open up and talk about whatever they’ve been keeping bound up tightly inside.

Various medications that are available for depression treatment are sometimes useful for helping the depression patient to regulate his or her mood swings, to actually help him or her sleep better and as well be more pleasant towards others. This brings more positivity and good feeling back to the person, in a feedback loop.

This is all derived from medical model thinking. Now healthy people who know themselves well and can read their bodily feedback, simply go for a 30 minute to one hour walk, regularly, like every day, maybe with their pet dog or in the company of a group. They may play golf, go swimming or fishing, work out, etc., and the human body works miraculously then to re-balance itself. It produces flowing endorphins for good feeling - as a reward or reinforcement of good activity. Quite simple in essence!

For goodness' sake let common sense prevail here with depression treatment options. As soon as you apply the medical model you - as a community - lose all sight of reality. Just observe what the wealthy and the successful people do. In a nutshell, they 'look after themselves!' Self help in a BIG way!

Catch your sadness early and don't let it get severe. Rely on the body's endorphins as the best anti-depressant of all time!
